Waking up in the morning is no easy feat…
In fact, I’m pretty sure this quote might just sum up what we all might be thinking:
In an ideal world no one talk before 10am. People would just hug, because waking up is really hard.

How can I be creative in the morning?
1. Diet
What does getting a good breakfast have to do with creativity?
Everything! The days I have skipped out on eating, I notice a difference in my anxiety levels, mood swings, and `yes even how creative I feel.
Why?
- replenishes glucose levels to alleviate energy & alertness
- improved long-term health conditions ( for example- type 2 diabetes, heart health, & even being overweight)
- balances blood sugar & lowers “bad cholesterol”
- + more
The secret?
Making sure it’s a mix of carbs, proteins, healthy fats & fiber.
Like these:
- Eggs, avocado, fruit
- Organic oats, fruit, nut butter, chia / flack seeds
- Herby dutch baby with smoked salmon
- Greek yogurt bowl
- Or go for an “unconventional breakfast!”
Morning routine to boost creativity #2 Soak up the sun
Studies show getting morning sunlight boosts alertness, mood, & even improves sleep quality ( aka all ingredients for creativity!)
This has become a non negotiable in my morning routine to boost creativity, even living in rainy ( & often cloudy!) England.
Not only that, I find that taking a brisk walk in the morning clears my mind, & leaves space for creative inspiration to appear before I’m bombarded with all the tasks of the day.
3. Establish your go to creative bff)”
Your “creative bff” is a basically like exercising your inner artist in the morning.
It’s anything that’s quick and can get the creative juices flowing. For me, it’s doing an exercise in my 365 Days Of Creativity Workbook that has tasks like drawing to wake my inner artist up.
The trick is do it while eating your breakfast ( known as habit stacking!) so you get two good habits in one.
Here are some “creativity bffs” ideas:
- Free writing / Artist morning pages
- Doodling
- Reading
- Working on a project
