Dance meditation is an easy creative wellness outlet for emotional release, & embodiment.
Personally, dance has been my go to movement medicine. It allows me to release pent up energy from a day full of parenting an 18-month old, & all the craziness the day brings.
In other words:
When I do a dance meditation I show up happier, healthier, & a hell of a lot more calm.
Read on to discover 3 types of dance meditations for emotional release you can easily incorporate into your creative wellness routine today!
What is meditation dancing?
Meditation dancing is using movement in a therapeutic way in order to release difficult emotions, & pent up energy.
Dance meditation can easily be done in the comfort of your own home ( there are tons of free video online or just turn on music & move to your heart desire).
This differs from dance therapy, a form of psychotherapy, done only under a trained therapist.
What are the benefits of movement meditation?
Movement ( dance) meditation offers several range of benefits, such as:
- stress relief
- mind- body connection
- emotional release
- mental clarity
- improved physical health
1. Flow dance

2. Ecstatic
Elastic dance invites you to feel the music through discovering your unique rhythm ( done in groups or alone).
Here’s a quick video to get started!
3. Mindful Walk
Yes, even walking is considered a movement ( dance!) meditation. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains, exploring a nature reserve, or even taking a stroll in your neighborhood- anyone can do this, no matter where you live!
Start by noticing the things around you, how your feet feel on the ground, competently grounding yourself in the present moment.
If this feels a bit awkward at first, downloading a meditation app can offer a variety of “walking meditations” to get started.
THE TAKEAWAY
Dance meditation is creative wellness practice that allows you move & shift energy, & connect more deeply with yourself.
You don’t need to be an experienced dancer, move however feels right for you, not focusing on looking a certain way, but rather letting the music work it’s magic on you.
