Word hard, Play hard?
In today’s society the hustle and grind culture is real. Every day we are pressured to think of new and different business ideas, to “seize the day”. Time is money and money is time is a common phrase that has been engraved in our minds.
But the truth of the matter is…
It is exhausting to be in Picasso mode every single second of the day. If you’re in the middle of overcoming a creative block it feels devastating and it’s easy to let the negative thoughts roll in like:
- Maybe I’m just not as creative as I thought I was.
- Is this truly for me?
- Why can … create amazing content and I’m not?
Although, experts tell us that taking time for our health is the solution in harnessing our creativity energy. AKA: In order to cultivate a life fueled by creativity, we must first embark on the art of simplicity.
“Choosing art over health instead of art empowered by health will make you less productive, less innovative, and kill you faster.”
THAT’S WHY….
If you want to bring your creative mojo back then keep on reading because these hacks were made just for you.
1. Take a Class
We all have that New Year’s Resolution list in the back of our heads of things we always wanted to learn but never had the time or energy to put into it.
Perhaps you are the queen of microwave meals and always dreamed of being a great cook.
Or maybe you’ve always admired how beautiful horses were and wanted to give horseback riding a try.
Taking on a new skill that distracts us from our work and engages our mind is a brilliant way to take our brain off of things and most importantly enjoy life.
And it’s in those special moments that inspire us to create.
2. Explore a new environment
This could mean taking a walk in a new neighborhood or different trail. T
he point is to shack up stagnant energy by kicking you out your daily routine.
This feeds your mind with new scenery which in turn helps to harvest creative ideas.
3. Focus on a task
Take a walk, take a bath, go to sleep, make a pie, draw, listen to music, meditate, exercise; whatever you do, don’t just stick there scowling at the problem.”
Hillary Mante
Sometimes all it takes is for us to go focus on a task that doesn’t require a lot of thought.
Have an organization or cleaning chore you’ve been putting off?
Well now is the time to tick it off the list. I
t seems simple, but sometimes a monotonous task can support the creative process because it gives the brain a well deserved break. ( giving creativity a space to breath and grow)
4. Embrace Boredom
Much research indicates that boredom increases creativity.
Spending time in nature, being alone with ourselves and perhaps enjoying boredom, increases our imaginative, making it the perfect opponent to overcoming creative block.
5. Search for Ideas
One of the best things about being a young creative today is we have access to inspiration right at our fingertips. Collab with other artists on groups or forums , follow people who inspire and motivate you. Listen to your favorite music artist. Watch interviews with the ideas behind different artists’ projects.
THE TAKEAWAY :
Creativity isn’t an endless stream we can just pump out every day from 9-5.
It shows itself in the special moments of our lives.
Perhaps when you’re making your daily commute and feel the gentle breeze and sun across your face.
Or maybe when you’re watching people go by laughing and enjoying their days together. Creativity is sacred but it’s something everyone posses.
The power is learning how to let go , turn off your computer screen screens and focus on life not performance.
