Let me ask you a question…
What comes to your mind when you hear “ inner artist”?
How about creative?
I bet you a zillion dollars that you weren’t one of the first associations that popped up in your mind.
Listen, I’ve been there way too many times to count.
In fact, my inner artist was locked far away for years.
The consequence?
A disconnection to who I was and a rupture between my inner peace and happiness.
Reconnecting to creativity has been a powerful tool for deeply healing work and a more well rounded life.
Here’s how I found healing through my inner artist with hopes that it motivates you to re-discover yours!
MY PERSONAL JOURNEY
Listen, my inner artist as a kid was pretty unstoppable.
I danced, wrote, sang, and “directed” my little heart away…
Was I any good at it? Probably not TBH….
I didn’t care!! That’s the best part about being a kid.
You don’t care what people think, or if you’re any good at it.
I simply enjoyed it and that’s all that mattered!
Then fast forward to that awful awkward age of 11-12, & I lost my inner artist somewhere along the bumpy journey of middle school, high school, and all that craziness…
My mind fed me all types of negative beliefs, and I struggled to show up for my inner artist until eventually it disappeared.
Motherhood inspired me to heal my inner child, reconnect with my inner artist, and take risks to rediscover my creative identity.
I take dance classes, joined a sports club, started an art journey, read juicy non-fiction, & create like never before.
WHAT IS AN INNER ARTIST?
An inner artist is a desire to express your unique self through creative practices such as painting, writing poetry, dancing, playing the piano, or taking a drama class.
Just think about it.
- Feeling instantly better after writing down jumbled thoughts in a diary
- Twisting & turning to a new song by your favorite artist
- Dying of later laughter until your belly hurts during a stand up comedy
- Wiping off tears from a heart felt movie or performance
All this to say…
Art moves us and re connects us to our true core.
Nurturing your inner artist is a beautiful way to explore emotions, heal our inner child, discover hidden talents & passions without judgement.
