My daughter is a master at being slow.
By this I mean it seems like every single task takes about a million light years…
Brushing her teeth, eating, staring at the tiniest little flower for ages …
And me?
Well, If I had the ability to put things in “fast forward” believe me, I would ( especially when it comes to finishing creative projects)
Although deep down I know that one day when I’m old, wrinkly and gray I’ll look back at these still moments and wish I could press pause instead.
Because the truth is:
Our life as artists, creators, mothers, individuals flow together perfectly through the ever shifting creative season.
And with some creative seasons ( winter) where I feel unproductive, my creativity seems lost in sight.
Lost somewhere between the chaos of parenting and life.
But it isn’t gone forever.
It’s just waiting it’s turn for when the season of creation (spring!) to come back around.
Things like being newly post partum-, the age and temperament of our children, a thriving village or lack there of- massively impacts what season of creativity we find ourselves in.
Not only does embracing our seasons ( for however long they last) helps us to avoid feeling burn out, pressured to create, or judgmental on the progress we’ve made, it shows our children it’s okay to slow down and relax.
We show them them that by listening to our needs, giving ourselves some much needed self-compassion, that we use our circumstances to our advantage, and even to fuel our creativity.
