Until recently, I thought I sucked at art, therefore, I could never bothered to nurture my inner artist..
Somehow I came up with this ridiculous narrative that I could barely draw a stick figure, so I silenced the part of myself that was fascinated with pottery, and painting.
Now, I’m not saying I’m Piscasso ( by any means!) to be honest, I’m really not that talented in the visual art world, but that’s okay!
The process of creating fills up my cup, allowing me to be mentally sane for myself, and my family!
So, how can you embrace your inner artist?
So through trial ( and a lot of error!) here are 5 ways I’ve learned to bring your creative side back to life.

Write morning or evening pages
I enjoy writing in the evening, mornings just aren’t it for me…
Some people swear to reach a certain time or number of pages for optimal benefits, but I think do whatever works best for you!
I mean we’re in different seasons of our lives, and I know personally, some days I only have a few minutes in my day for writing.
As long as I do it, I feel accomplished and grateful I took time to show up for my creativity.
Julia Cameron ( author of The Artist’s Way) says how morning pages get all junk out of our heads, leaving space for inspiration to occur.
Read a biography ( the most under-rated thing ever!)
You may be wondering, why do I need to read biography’s to unleash my inner child artist?
Honestly, I was in the same thought bubble, until I learned how amazing they can be to help us get rid of our own creative locks and limiting beliefs.
It’s inspiring to read about other’s life stories ( particularity artists & creatives) to validate our own struggles, learn valuable lessons from their personal experiences, and simply know that we aren’t alone!
Make a list of “creative commandments”
Creative commandments are basically a list of 3-7 rules you want to stick to.
Why??
Having a set list of rules make it easier to commit to nurturing your child artist, because you’re becoming a bit more mindful on how you’re actually going to maintain the habit.
Picture this:
It’s been a long day and you can’t wait to binge the latest episode of Love is Blind ( or whatever show you love…) THANKFULLY one of your creative commandments is to dedicate 10 minutes of drawing, writing, etc. BEFORE your Netflix show so you’re able to do what you what without all the guilt.
Identify your “energy zombies!”
Okay, we all have that one friend who just drones on and on.
Like they’re so negative! Talking to them in small doses is alright, but you wouldn’t dream of discussing your creative endeavors.
Cue energy zombies.
We all know them and they have a special talent of sucking the life of any slightly positive thing we want to try.
Now I’m not saying cut contact with them ( sometimes that’s not even possible) but limit your time with them, and definitely keep your delicate little child artist out of sight.
Exposure, exposure, exposure!!
Join a class. Have your paints notebook / roller skates / etc. out and visible around your home.
Anything you have to do to remind yourself of your child artist’s existence! Because honestly? It takes time to nurture this part of ourselves, that have been forgotten for so long.
And our brains will do anything to convince us to stick with the same old thing.
Let me know below! How are you going to nurture your child artist this week?
