What are some of your all time books, movies, art pieces or songs?
Now what sort of emotions do they stir in you?
Perhaps, your eyes fill with tears from laughter rewatching an old childhood film or your heart sinks reading a poem on heart break.
Maybe you feel all types of emotions as the story unravels.
Whatever you feel, this moral of creativity is true :
To create is to be inherently vulnerable
That’s why this week we’re revealing the top 3 truths on how creativity & vulnerability massively impacts the quality and success of our creative pursuits.
1. Our audience relates to us
When we allow our meaningful creative ideas to be seen, others aren’t just casually looking at our work but connecting with our stories.
This ultimately leads to a community of individuals who love and support the brand you worked so hard to build.
For example, my own journey as an artist inspired my passion to open up about common artist mental health issues like creative anxiety.
Opening up about these problems is scary but it’s comforting knowing there are other artists out there who resonate with my message.
Even if it’s just one person, you are sending out the message they aren’t alone.
And sometimes that’s all we need.
2. Creativity & vulnerability is interconnected
What does your creative process look like?
Maybe you hibernate in your room locked away from any distractions, or you find your spark in the liveliness of a cafe.
Wherever you and your creativity meet, the same thing is true :
There is nothing more vulnerable than exercising your creative gifts.
Why?
Well, what does it mean to be “creative?”
Whichever artistic business you’re in, we’re all creating something that’s never existed before. Whether it’s a painting, partnership, program, etc. we are constantly putting ourselves out there by voicing our ideas.
There’s nothing more vulnerable than that!
3. Imperfection fuels creative innovation
One of the most powerful words I ever heard was:
“ Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.
Brene Brown
Skills we can’t manifest by striving for perfection all the time.
Allowing our selves the grace to possibly screw up in our creative lives :
A. Throws the ridged life of absolute perfection down the drain
B. Provides healthy competition among ourselves when we do mess up
C. Gives us a leap of faith in creatives ideas opening up new innovative pathways & connections
