For years I battled ways to combat anxiety, often finding myself in dreaded situations:
- sleep issues
- low mood
- racing thoughts
Luckily, through ( a lot!) of trial and error throughout the years, I have discovered simple yet effective hacks I use daily into my routine to overcome anxiety.
Here are 5 noteworthy ways to combat anxiety.
1. Anxiety Fidget Toys
These are by far my favorite and most utilized accessory in situations where I feel a bit anxious. I swear by the anxiety ring which has a spinning element on it, that allows me to stay calm and focused. This is self soothing for people who have anxiety because it offers you something to fidget with in a rhythmic pattern that has a calming effect.
Personally, my favorites are the anxiety “spinner” rings because not only are they cute to wear, but also more discrete than whipping out a colorful fidget toy during situations, causing more attention to myself. I love the 5 pack because I can switch them out depending on my mood for the day, instead of just having one.
2. CBD
CBD helps me to stay calm and relaxed throughout the day, no matter what the world throws at me.
In fact, several studies are coming out on the beneficial use of CBD for lowing anxiety levels.
Even better companies are now offering CBD:
- gummies
- sprays
- capsules
This is great because it offers offers an individualized approach for what fits you best.
CBD helps me to stay calm and relaxed throughout the day, no matter what the world throws at me.
3. Organized environment
When your home is full of clutter does it suddenly feel like your mind is also full of clutter?
It’s not a coincidence- studies now tell us that cleaning and mental health are well connected.
Studies reveals having an organized space not only reduces anxiety, but plays a role in:
- Reducing fatigue
- Improve mental focus
- Clean sheets made bed = improved sleep quality
- Less distraction = more productive
- Improved mood
4. EFT Tapping
EFT Tapping is a meditation technique that has been used to treat anxiety by focusing on the meridian ( energy) points to restore balance.
Based on Chinese Acupuncture tapping helps you access your body’s energy and send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress.
In fact, the 2016 PubMed Central study concluded significant decrease in anxiety scores compared to participants receiving other care proving it’s effectiveness.
5. Limit sensory overload
When my mind is over-stimulated, it’s no surprise that my symptoms worsen.
Suddenly walking through the bustling city centre filled with people, lights, music, advertisements or after staring at your computer with the social media tabs open ( guilty..) you can’t seem to focus everything seems overwhelming.
I find limiting my screen time, limiting blue light exposure in the evenings, and finding a cozy cafe or quiet corner in a bustling environment ( avoiding the busy hours when possible!) allows my body time to regulate.
