I love New Year goals ( or maybe just any reason to re-inspired..)
Coming together with family and friends, watching the countdown, all the food.
But I also I know for after the festivities start to fade away, all the new year goals start to fade away…
The holiday buzz is over, the days end early, and winter blues quickly starts to set in.
Prioritizing self care in order to uphold our new goals is more important than ever.
1. Time to get creative
Creativity broadens our self awareness, encourages mindfulness, and most importantly gives us a break from the havoc in our daily routines.
Being creative doesn’t mean you have to make the next Picasso painting!
It can be anything you want-DIY projects, music, dance, writing, photography ,you name it.
2. Carve out time to release emotions
“If you pause and ask yourself what it is that you’re picking up from a certain space, you’ll be surprised by how much energy you are deriving from other people.” – Sahara Rose
Our bodies are constantly trying to communicate to us about our health- whether that be through sore muscles, feeling “heavy”- our energy builds up and can get suppressed or trapped in our bodies.
So whether it’s a 2:00am dance party in your room, turning up the music and going for a run, or getting a massage, it’s important to release the tension our bodies accumulate throughout the week.
3. Daily check ins
Simply by asking ourselves ” how are you?” has a profound impact on waking us from auto-pilot and reconnects us back to our true essence.
Even for just a moments, try:
- Close your eyes and take 3-5 deep belly breaths
- Notice your breath, the sounds, and rising of your chest
- Then start to notice your body starting from the head down
4. Gratitude
When we’re caught up in the whirlwind of achieving new year goals, it can sometimes feel like we’re never doing enough.
When we take the time to make gratitude a part of our daily life, we are celebrating the amazing accomplishments and blessings in our daily lives.
THE TAKEAWAY:
After the holiday buzz is over, the new year is the time to make self care the priority.
This can be shown by:
- Creativity ( indulge in playfulness & gives yourself break from the havoc of daily routines)
- Daily check ins ( ask yourself how you’re really doing)
- Release build up emotions ( 2:00am dance party anyone?)
- Gratitude ( acknowledge all the amazing things in your life!)
