These 6 first trimester essentials powered me through the early stages of my pregnancy.
I was a lucky enough to not deal with nausea , but it definitely wasn’t a walk in the park either… just see below :
- Fatigue ( 5:30pm bedtime anyone?)
- Headaches!
- Emotional roller coaster ( yes, I got weepy at the drop of a hat…)
- Cramping ( especially in the first few weeks..)

1. Hot Water Bottle
If you experience any cramping or just need some extra comfort, keeping a hot water bottle will be #1 on your first trimester essentials list. Keeping one in bed is the perfect way to prep for a night’s sleep, staying nice and cozy on the sofa, or simply whipping it out whenever you need a bit of extra comfort.
2. Blue light glasses
Let’s be real. We are stuck staring at our screens all day. I must admit that my big glasses may not be a fashion statement, but it’s how I avoid getting those horrible tension headaches and eye strains…
3. Headache Wrap
I can’t stress enough how amazing these are for my headaches! Having my bluelight glasses on along with my cooling wrap when my headaches got particularly bad, significantly reduced pain. My favorite features about the wrap above is that it can be used as either hot or cold therapy.
4. Eating balanced snacks
Our body is the only one we’ve been given, so we need to maintain it; we need to give it the best nutrition.
Trudie Styler
Grabbing a piece of fruit or chips on your way out to work is definitely convenient, but I soon found out that it simply wasn’t enough. I found myself snacking several times a day in between meals, which can get costly and honestly? Just too much! Balancing your snacks may take a bit more prep time, but you stay fuller for longer ( not to mention it’s more nutritious!)
- apples & peanut butter ( or cheese)
- Greek yogurt + nuts + fruit
- Veggies / Chips with hummus / guac
5. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Drinking water gives us more energy, improved brain performance, temp regulation, and so much more. And let me tell you… from someone who never drank enough water before, me and the water bottle are practically attached to the hip now. I can tell the difference in my symptoms on days I’m lacking in the water department, and for someone who struggles to drink enough water, I love having a water bottle that comes with a time marker to keep me on track.
6. Quality wearable blanket
“Certainly work is not always required of a man. There is such a thing as a sacred idleness, the cultivation of which is now fearfully neglected.”
George Mac Donald, Wilfrid Cumbermede
Allowing time for rest is essential during pregnancy. I mean we’re growing a human being inside us ( that deserves some credit, right?) So If you battle with fatigue during the first trimester, you’ll probably be glued to your bed every chance you get.
Well, that about wraps it up this week! Listen, if I could’ve had a read into the future on what may first trimester would look like, I would’ve bulked up on these first trimester essentials. Each one became a lifesaver in helping me through the headaches, beginning weeks cramps, and fatigue:
- Hot water bottle
- Blue light Glasses
- Headache wrap
- Balanced snacks
- quality cozy blanket
