Why are journal prompts one of the best things to add to your wellness routine?
Impact Theory’s podcast interview with Jim Kwik resonated with me when we asked us to consider, “ “What are the habits of our thoughts?” He compared our brain to a “super computer” and our self talk to one of a constantly running program.
Our day to day life is full of our physical habits like making breakfast, getting dressed, cooking, waking up on time, trying to make time for exercise. Consider journaling as the practice of a mental habit that takes captive our thoughts. It gives us the driver’s seat when it comes to dealing with our negative self talk and programmed beliefs.

These 20 journaling prompts will inspire you to develop healthy emotional habits by questioning your beliefs. This is important because once you’re conscious of them you can begin to make positive changes.
- Take a nature walk. Write a descriptive poem about what you see. What does the nature you see remind you of? Try to incorporate as many metaphors and colors you can!
- What are some of your favorite affirmations, mantras, prayers? What about them resonates with you?
- What does this quote make you think about how you show up to the world?

- Write down what comes to mind about yourself when you think about these words : Safety, Grounded, Resilient, Connected, Sovereignty
- What creative piece brings you the most joy and connection? This could be a work of art, a movie / TV Show / dance / performance / etc. Write down how it makes you feel and how you can cultivate these feelings into your every day life.
- What are the actions / thoughts you need to in order to trust and feel safe with someone? How about with yourself?
- How does your friendship circle support you? If you don’t have one imagine how you would like to feel supported by a community.
- Which of the elements are you most connected to? What is about this certain element that brings you peace?
- Describe a harmonious and calm day only using your senses.
- Write about 3 moments in your life- one big ( wedding) , medium ( going out to a party), and small ( commuting to work) from the perspective of your body. What physical sensations do you feel?
- When do you feel most radiant? What kind of foods do you nourish yourself with, what kind of clothes do you wear?
- What’s the kindest thing someone ( or yourself) can do when don’t feel calm?
- How do you express yourself creatively? If not, what are some creative outlets you’d be interested in trying?
- Did you know that feelings of anxiety are similar to the feelings of excitement? What physical sensations are you attaching to different emotions?
- What did the people around you value and praise you about growing up? How have those judgements influenced your story today?
- What does being in harmony with yourself and others look and feel like to you?
- What’s your favorite aspect of each season? How can you use this to amplify feelings of creativity and harmony with each changing season?
- What time of day do you feel most optimal? How can you use that energy to fuel your ideas and goals?
- What are small actions you can take every day to make things easier to relax?
- How would you show up differently if you allowed yourself to do the things you’re afraid of?
